Halloween Costume Ideas - The 80s Geek (Napoleon Dynamite) Edition

Wow, that was a tease.

FOX has canceled the Napoleon Dynamite TV series, but something tells me this isn't the end for the quirky Idahoan.  In fact, the short-lived TV show may just be the trigger for another upsurge of Napoleon Dynamite-themed costumes, gimmicks, and perhaps... gulp... fashion.

Since the release of the film 8 years ago, Napoleon Dynamite has fostered an avid cult following that 's expected to come in droves this year and channel their inner(?) nerds in Halloween costume parties and other festivals - and who doesn't enjoy some teenage/high school nostalgia?  If you don't want to miss out on the party, check out some cool Napoleon Dynamite Costume Ideas in Squidoo.

American Reunion was just the prelude.  This Halloween, the bizarro-comedic nerds will steal the show.

Netflix Weekend

Couch potato weekend, hopefully.

I realized I'm not making the most out of our Netflix subscription since we rarely stream Netflix videos online. Our Wii is connected to a different (and non-HD) TV in the bedroom and it's a drag having to bring it into the living room, beside the DVD player and all, just to use it for Netflix streaming.

My laptop, VGA cable, and HDTV should do the trick.

Reunions with Classmates

College

Last weekend, we had a reunion of sorts with some college friends as Jason and Patrick visited LA. We got the chance to meet up with Trisha as well on Friday night.

Both guys stayed in the apartment that I share with my family. It's amazing how the three of us were able to fit in the living room as we retired at night.

We planned on going to more places than we actually were able to visit. But I had a great time and I hope everyone had as well.

Friday: Universal Studios Citywalk, "Four Christmases" movie.

Saturday: Hollywood, Wax Museum, Guinness Records Museum, shopping.

Sunday: Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive, shopping.

Monday: Topanga Mall, Zen Buffett!

Elementary/High School

I had to wake up at 4am on Friday morning just to catch my elementary/high school friends online. Vicky celebrated her birthday and she invited school and church friends at her house. The party was virtually a reunion for some members of Hope Christian High School Class of 2002.

It's been hard to arrange a get-together among the folks. We went to different universities and pursued different career paths. Everyone is busy with a hectic work schedule. We may never even get the chance to gather everyone together at the same place. So an opportunity where several of us can attend (via webcam on my part) is hard to skip.

Unbelievable as it sounds - I can't even get myself to wake up at 6am on a typical day - I was wide awake by 4:15am. Skype allowed us to see each other via webcam. It is unfortunate, though, that my mic isn't working so I had to type whatever I wanted to say to them.

My shoutout to the folks (even though they probably won't be able to read this):

Vicky - Happy birthday again! Thanks for letting me know about your birthday party. It was perfect timing that I saw you online in YM on that day.

Donelle - Happy birthday as well! Get a project in the US so we can meet up haha!

Rickie - Congrats on your successful visa application!

Delia - Hope you have a quick recovery. And I still haven't replied to your last email.

Smith - Nice to see you again. Wow! this is cool. I saw you almost every day from kindergarten to high school. And then I never saw you again, not even once in college, until now.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Day Movie Day

Advanced, midnight screenings for the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix were held today, July 11, 2007 (12:01 am) - yes, I got to watch. The official release will be on July 13th, Friday.

I have not read the book, but I have followed the movies from the Sorcerer's Stone to Goblet of Fire. I'll say I liked Order of the Phoenix very much (FYI: I liked all of the movies). The students (Harry, Ron, etc.) matured quite a lot in this story. It's also amazing to see that Harry Potter, as a film, has lost not a single ounce of its "magic" and is still riding with big momentum.

Special props to Alan Rickman, the actor who played Professor Snape. I think everyone was good in this movie as far as acting is concerned but Rickman's portrayal of Snape stands out (as always) in every scene that he is in.

Finally, this turns out to be another first-of-a-kind for me - I never watched an advanced screening before. The movie started out at 12:01 midnight. We bought our tickets online and lined up at the cinema as early as around 8pm to ensure ourselves of good seats. I got home at past 3am - the last time I did this was back when I went to Disneyland and then to a bar in downtown LA last Holiday season.

Transformers Movie Day (No Spoilers)

Continuing from my previous blog, I just came home from watching Transformers the Movie. I started the day accompanying Jamie as she shopped for some stuff. As a guy, I tried my best in giving my most honest and objective advice as she tried out the dresses (I've never done that before - the giving of advice in which clothes to buy, I mean). Most retail items here in America are really very good buys when they're on sale. At around noon, we picked up Sarah and Abbey from their house and went on to watch the movie.

I'm not going to rate or give my review as that isn't the point of this blog. I only have three things to say:

1) I absolutely liked the movie.

2) Megan Fox is steaming hot!!!

3) Next time, I'll make sure I go to the restroom before watching a movie even if I don't feel the urge to relieve myself. I so wanted to excuse myself in the middle of the movie but chose not do so because I didn't want to miss a single thing. This also happened to me when I watched Pirates 3. But, no matter (see item #1).

Here's the final Transformers trailer:

Thieves, Pirates and Superheroes

I seem to have enjoyed Ocean's 13 better than Pirates 3 and Spiderman 3.

However, Pirates 3 had the best trailer:
